About the School
J.H.S. 50 John D. Wells is a Title I Renewal middle school located in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In partnership with El Puente, a community-based organization, J.H.S. 50 has become a Community School whose mission is to promote youth leadership through academic arts, athletics, and activisim. The school works to empower student voice by providing opportunities to engage in evidence-based discourse across classrooms.
About the Visit
At this Showcase, visitors will learn about the structures and resources needed to incorporate evidence-based discourse across all classrooms and content areas. Visitors will also learn about how J.H.S. 50 has created a competitive debate team, the only team in the City that also debates in Spanish. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to see live debate in action. At the end of the day, visitors will have the opportunity to collaborate with host staff and plan to incorporate debate practices into their work.
If you would like to preview some of the artifacts from Showcase Schools, you can find them here in this collection, which is organized alphabetically by the host school’s learning focus area.
We strongly encourage you to attend visits with colleagues.
