About The Visit
School leaders at Renaissance Leadership Academy (MS322) will frame this visit by sharing their vision that students will graduate able to think critically about the academic disciplines as well as real world literacy application. This visit will highlight four classrooms: Science, Social Studies and Math across a variety of contexts: ICT, general Education, dual language and honors classes. You will leave this visit with exposure to seeing four different high-leverage Non-fiction reading strategies and will be given the opportunity to plan within your school teams. A cross-content PD will be incorporated into our day that includes specific strategies from Notice and Note Non-fiction stances, signposts, and strategies (Beers & Probst).
The visit will also highlight multiple ways teachers check for understanding while implementing Non-fiction reading strategies in the content areas along with school-wide systems that support teachers across all classrooms.
This visit is recommended for both teachers and Administrators and it will highlight Rigorous Instruction: Effective Teaching Across the Disciplines & Engaging Students with Complex Text on the MSQI Framework. The visit will also connect to several Quality Review indicators: 1.1 Curriculum, 1.2 Pedagogy, and 5.1 Monitoring & Revising Systems and ties into all domains of Danielson with specific emphasis on 1a: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy, 3a: Communicating With Students, 3c: Engaging Students in Learning and 3b: Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques.
