About The Visit
Come explore how a school is consistently refining literacy practices to grow students as readers. Reciprocal Teaching is used faithfully across content areas, while educators identify how to make the routine as authentic as possible. From Reciprocal Teaching as a foundation for the deliberate teaching of reading strategies, Highbridge Green is also dedicated to strategic instruction, providing a rich tiered Strategic Reading period, as well as treating engagement and joy as key levers for reading growth and nurturing lifelong readers.
During this visit, participants will visit classes; speak with students, teachers, and leadership; and explore related resources to understand how Reciprocal Teaching or similar reading routines can advance attention to common reading strategies across the school; how to create a robust strategic reading program; and how attention to students’ identities and experiences is fostering culturally responsive efforts to nurture engagement and joy around reading.
The visit will overlap with all Danielson domains, with greatest attention to Planning & Preparation (Domain 1) and Instruction (Domain 3), as well as Quality Review Indicators 1.2 (Pedagogy), 1.3 (Leveraging Resources), 3.1 (Goals & Action Plans), 4.2 Teacher Teams & Leadership Development, and 5.1 (Monitoring & Revising Systems).
