About The Intervisitation
During this intervisitation in District 16 in Brooklyn, participants will spend the morning learning about effective strategies to support disciplinary literacy in science, with a specific lens toward ways considerations of equity can be infused into science lessons, texts, and curriculum. Participants will visit classrooms at Madiba to see these strategies and considerations in action. In the afternoon, teachers from Madiba Prep and from other MSQI schools will help facilitate a professional learning session around disciplinary literacy in science and share previous years’ work in preparing their students for the MSQI Science Fair.
This visit is recommended for science teachers and administrators, and is particularly suggested for all schools planning to showcase student work in the annual MSQI Science Fair on May 24th. It will tie directly to Quality Review indicators 1.1 (Curriculum) and 1.2 (Pedagogy), and it will specifically support Danielson indicators 1a (Knowledge of Content & Pedagogy), 3b (Questioning & Discussion), 3c (Student Engagement), and 4d (Participating in the Professional Learning Community).
